Mazar-i-Sharif is the capital of Balkh province in Afghanistan and is located about a 7 hour drive northwest of Kabul. It is well known for the Shrine of Hazrat Ali, which is the blue-tiled masjid [mosque] depicted in the photograph. I, unfortunately, didn’t get to travel to Mazar during my time in Afghanistan, but maybe next time.
